UAE President 2004 - 2022

The late Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan was the eldest son of the founder, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and the second President of the United Arab Emirates. Born in 1948, he received his schooling at the Nahyaneia School in Al Ain City.


In August 1966, he was appointed as the Abu Dhabi Ruler’s Representative in the Eastern Region. On 1 February 1969, he was appointed Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, and on 1 July 1971, he headed the first local cabinet of Abu Dhabi, also holding the portfolios of Defence and Finance. On 20 January 1974, he became the Deputy Prime Minister of the Federal Cabinet and was appointed in 1976 as the Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces. During this time, Sheikh Khalifa played a key role alongside Sheikh Zayed in fostering the nation's growth and driving its development.


On 3 November 2004, Sheikh Khalifa became President of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Abu Dhabi. Under his leadership, the UAE witnessed significant developmental progress on all levels. His humility, closeness to the people, and citizen welfare policies earned him an admired status throughout his years.


On 13 May 2022, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan passed away, leaving behind a rich legacy of dedicated service to the nation.
